A call for education that supports the flourishing of diverse capabilities
An inspiring TED talk presented in 2010 by Sir Ken Robinson, calling for a transformation in education, a move from what he describes as an “industrial” model, to an “agricultural” model of education. As a follow-up to an earlier TED talk presented in 2006 (click here for more details), Sir Robinson proposes that there are dominant principles in education today that are taken for granted but are outdated, such as singular conceptions of intelligence and ability, and the idea that learning and life are linear processes. Robinson calls for a move from an educational system focused on conformity and standardization to one that recognizes and respects the diversity of capabilities, and supports the organic “flourishing” of such capabilities, and gives some examples of how this can happen.
